iGraf – Interactive Graphics on the Internet
This is a quick guide to the free software
iGraf: Interactive Graphics on the Internet.
iGraf is specially designed to help teachers and students with an important
Math concept, function. This software has several advantages, such as:
- Free
- iGraf
is free of charge to any user and can be donwloaded from the
iMath
website.
- Portable
- iGraf
is written in Java programming language and, thus, it can work in any environment where such technology is available.
It's very likely that you are visualizing this guide in a Java capable web browser and, if it is not
the case, you can
download
the necessary files to this (the JRE)
also free of charge. In the section
running iGraf you can find a bit more explanation about
how to install iGraf and Java.
- Advanced Resources
- The iGraf has some exclusive
features (until now not simultaneously available in any other similar system).
- With iGraf
is possible to explore function concepts in a dynamic fashion, through its
function animations.
- There are some features to simplify the
teacher's job, especially with large classes of students.
The iGraf allow teachers to create and publish on the Web exercises with
automatic evaluation!
If the school has a Learning Managment System (LMS) in its Web server,
there are much more gain, since iGraf could be integrated to the LMS, providing reports to the teacher
and feedback to the students activities.
Our team also makes avaliable a free
Moodle
package to integrate iGraf, and others interactive Learning Modules (iLM), called
iAssign.
To the students, automatic evaluation is interesting because provides an immediate feedback.
This feature allows students to get know if their exercise answer is in accordance with teacher's expectation.
- Easy
- The main features of iGraf
is very simple to use and all of its options is available under Web pages.
The iGraf development was initiated in 2003, as a Scientific Enhancement study the
prospective teacher Reginaldo do Prado at the
IME-USP, under my supervision.
In 2004, was tested the first version of iGraf.
Our goal is to create and release high quality didactic stuff (mainly software) to students and teachers
in all levels.
Very soon iGraf will have its source code distributed under
the CCSL.
We hope this guide can be usefull for you!
